Holy Shit! Global warming is out of control; we are all going to burn up in the next 5 years…oh wait, it snowed in the United Arab Emirates today (or their yesterday). A country more knows for it’s blistering heat is now covered in…well, they are not quite sure as the UAE has no local word for snow. This is one of the very few times there has been snowfall in recorded history for them. Happy late holidays to everyone in the UAE; enjoy the snow while it lasts…tomorrow it will be 40C again.
Occasionally I exhibit a bit of OCD, or at least I would call it OCD. There is one website which I have been trying to create and finish now for just around two months. How much do I have done? I plan on remaking the theme again during this next week; for probably the 6th or 7th time. First it was going to be a nice theme made in Photoshop CS3; then I realized I didn’t know enough Photoshop to make it the way I wanted so I restarted it. After the second or third iteration of Photoshop themes, I decided to just make a basic, pretty all text and colours theme; no images besides the logo (which took about 15 tries to get perfect). On the first div based theme it looked almost exactly like the Photoshop theme until I realized that I could not do drop down menus the way I wanted. Yes, I would have run into this problem anyways but that is not the point. So the menu moved to the left, then the menu was a cool CSS menu that you could click headings and view sub-pages within the sections, then there was a cookie to save the way the menu was laid out. Now the whole thing is going to be rewritten again using JQuery; a Javascript library that has some cool effects and is cross browser compliant.
This will be the last iteration of the theme until the site is completed. The next theme will be completely done in Photoshop, totally image based and will still use JQuery but it will look much better. That is of course if I can decide on a colour scheme that I like and stick with it. If anyone notices me redoing the theme over and over with different colours please smack me and link me back to this post. This is one website that needs to get done and done well quickly. Hopefully in a year or two I can pull some income from this and give back to the people who have inspired, promoted and put up with my web designing and of course paid for my Mountain Dew drinking habits.
It’s rare for me to post this much; not sure if it will keep up but some things you just have to post about. President Elect Obama is taking George Bush’s bailout plan to a whole new level. This plan generally sucked to begin with and there is no reason that it should ever be implemented. Bailing out companies is a bad idea to start with. How do you decide who needs it, who gets it and who is just fucked screwed? First come first serve would be the only way to do it, when the money is gone…everyone else is sol; except that the government will just create more money to bail them out too.
What are we trying to teach people…that if you spend all your money and make a huge business that can’t even buy toilet paper that it is ok? The government will hook you up! You’re too big to fail! We need you. It might be saying that, or it could be saying spend all your money and make something huge; who gives a flying fuck about being responsible for anything, if you get in trouble…big brother has bail outs! All that we are really teaching people is that if you make something that the government thinks you need to keep making, you can do pretty much whatever you want with your money. Gold plated toilet seats? Sure, why not! We make lots of cars and they’re American so the Government can help us out.
The government should let the companies go bankrupt, fold, fall back into the shadows. If you can’t make a good product that people want to buy enough of to keep your business afloat, either do something different or you are going to fold. Why bailout a company that makes expensive piece of shit cars just because their American when Japan, Korea and The UK all make better, cheaper cars? Teach some responsibility and let companies pay for their mistakes.
I used to play the piano way back when I was young, and later in high school I played the trumpet. It has been more than four years since I have played either, aside from a little bit of fooling around here and there; mostly on the piano. Recently there has been this nagging urge to pick up an instrument again and I am not quite sure what I want to play. Always told people that if I started playing again I would probably do the violin, simply because it is the best and coolest. =p Now I am having second thoughts though, do I really want to play the violin or maybe go back to the trumpet or piano? The most likely thing is that I will pick up either the violin or bass…possibly the guitar but I am not sure. Would love to pick up something that I can actually stick with and learn as well as I know web design.
After spending christmas in colroado with my dad’s side of the family and my family, I went out to Seattle, WA to spend almost two weeks with my grilfriend. We both had a wonderful time, although it was too short…as always; I could never spend too much time with her. For the most part we stayed at the house talking and watching movies; one day we went and walked around in Seattle. The malls in Seattle are very huge and nice, although we only spend one day there I am sure we could easily spend a few days or even a week just looking around at all the different shops. On the last night I was there we went to the cafe on top of the space needle in Seattle. It was a really interesting experience; the snow was blowing everywhere and for the most part we could not see the ground. The food was incredibly good and for the price I was expecting something of that quality. In all my holidays were incredible, and incredibly short. I can’t wait until I graduate from ITT Tech and can spend more time with Ana.
