I was reading through the news stories on the Google news site as I often do and came across a story that I am not quite entirely sure what to think of. Obviously the story is sad…but I think that the response to the entire situation is completely wrong. Sure the people on the website egging him on was probably the wrong thing to do but he’s threatened to do it before, and most (not all) people who do this are just attention seeking. The people watching probably had no idea what he took, how many, where he lived and maybe not even what his real name was; there is not much they could do to help if / when they thought something was awry. I believe the parents were more at fault in this one; leaving a bi-polar kid with access to large quantaties of opiates and benzodiazepine. Is this a sad story? YES! Should the internet or live webcasts be regulated more because of it? NO! It’s not the job of your ISP or some state or national government to make sure your kid isn’t going to do something stupid while trying to get attention. Someone with bipoloar should not be left with enough medication of that caliber laying around that they could do something like this. It isn’t the failure of a good samaritin to act upon someone who they barely knew doing something that could have (and ended up being) bad. What if every person watching had called the police and told them what they thought was happening and where to go? Can you imagine it now? 25 police officers breaking down a door, storming a house, kicking down another door and finding a person laying there on their bed sleeping after having taken say 50 sugar pills…just for one minute imagine the law suits that would follow that one. Sure the kid will get a talking to by his parents and maybe a psychiatrist but what about the 100 or 200 or 3,000 people who all called the police to report a suicide attemt that was just some kid taking a ton of sugar pills. Logistically it would be a wreck and the credibility of tips about people doing things on a webcast could go to nil with one incident. Parents need to pay attention to their kids and make sure things are really going ok, TAKE SOME FUCKING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE THINGS THAT MATTER IN YOU LIFE. ><

Aside from those last two classes…I think I should do really well. xD I don’t do so well in “group project” classes, and Portfolio sounds boring. Hopefully this will be my last quarter at ITT Tech for my AA in Computer Network Systems; assuming I pass everything
