These days I really need more time to get things done. So many things to do and when I really have a lot of time to sit down and do them, other things always come up that need to get done. Between school, things around the house, homework and getting some websites finished up, there’s hardly any free time left to get in some reading, and there is a lot of reading I would like to do. A month or so ago I started reading ‘Age and Guile Beat Youth, Innocence, and a Bad Haircut’ by P.J. O’Rourke and even now I’m just barely half way through it. At not quite 400 pages it’s not exactly a long book but it’s a really good book; would love to send it to Ana because I’m sure she would really enjoy it, however, my dad said something about he won’t contribute to the corruption of the youth in the U.S. If I can ever finish reading that, there’s four or five programming books sitting on my desk that have barely been touched. One on perl, c++, bash scripting; I’ve read the first chapter or so of each and can’t wait to finish them.
One way I keep thinking of to get more time in for reading would be taking the train from home up close to school. Would eliminate most of the drive and give me an hour or so sitting on the train to read…or hopefully sit. The train tends to be crowded fairly regularly and on occasion loses air conditioning / heat. Not so bad in most months, but on some days that can be a really painful hour long trip. Could always read while driving up to class but doctors have proven that reading a novel and driving is generally bad for your health.
If I can get through Age and Guile by the end of this month and plan on reading a book every two months after that, by my birthday next year I should be finished with most of the books I have now. Lets just hope that I don’t get a half dozen books between now and then; have to take a month off work and classes to just sit at home and read. :p
